Southern California Edison Commits to 1,500 MW Wind Farm

LCG, December 22, 2006--Southern California Edison, an electric utility owned by Edison International, signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the electric output from a planned, 1,500 MW wind farm to be located in Southern California. The PPA is with Allco Wind Energy, a division of Allco Finance Group Limited (AFG).

The planned project will be built on a 50-square mile area in the Tehachapi area of Southern California. Allco Wind Energy stated that it would develop the project through a joint venture partnership with Oak Creek Energy Systems. The initial wind turbine installations are expected to be completed in 2010.

California's renewable energy goals and global warming legislation create a positive regulatory environment for wind developers. However, the PPA will need to be approved by the California Public Utilities Commission. Furthermore, to deliver the power to markets; the Commission will need to approve plans to construct a series of new and upgraded high-voltage transmission lines.
