DTE Plans New Reactor at Fermi Nuclear Power Plant

LCG, February 14, 2007--DTE Energy announced Monday that it is preparing a license application to construct and operate a nuclear power plant that would be sited near the existing Fermi 2 reactor in Michigan. DTE stated that it is pursuing the plan given the long lead time associated with developing such a facility and that it has not fully committed to build the plant at this time.

DTE anticipates filing its application with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) toward the latter part of 2008, which would meet the application submittal schedule criteria for receiving financial incentives included in the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

The new reactor may cost $3 billion and provide up to 1,500 MW of baseload capacity. The existing Fermi 2 reactor commenced operations in 1988 and has an electric generating capacity of 1,100 MW.

One of the factors influencing DTE's decision to pursue the development of another reactor is the lack of emissions associated with nuclear power.
