Hydro One Plans to Build New Electric Transmission Interconnection

LCG, March 28, 2007--Hydro One earlier this week announced plans to pursue the necessary approvals to enable the construction of a 500 kv electric transmission line along an existing transmission path. The new transmission facilities will provide markets in Ontario greater access to both wind power and nuclear power generated at the Bruce Power Station. The new transmission line is scheduled to be in service by December 2011.

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) earlier this week announced the route that it recommends. The new line would extend nearly 110 miles from the Bruce Power facility to Hydro One's Milton switching station located in the Town of Milton.

Last fall the OPA issued a report outlining how alleviation of transmission constraints may allow about 1,700 MW of new renewable power to be developed and delivered to electric customers in Ontario.
