Arizona Biomass Project Nears Commercial Operations
LCG, May 15, 2008--Renegy Holdings, Inc. (Renegy) yesterday issued an update on its business activities for the first quarter of 2008. A key accomplishment is completing a 24-MW, power project located near Snowflake, Arizona that uses biomass as fuel. Renegy has 20-year, power-purchase agreements (PPAs) for the project with Arizona Public Service Company (APS) and Salt River Project (SRP).
The new electric generating facility is adjacent to a recycled newsprint mill operated by Catalyst Paper Corporation, which provides recycled paper fibers to fuel the plant. This fuel supply is supplemented by wood wastes and residues from nearby forests and other sources. The plant includes a new Babcock and Wilcox bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler designed to meet the targeted fuels for use at the plant.
The Snowflake facility was synchronized to the grid on April 24, and full generating power has since been achieved. Various tests remain to be completed, including emissions, boiler performance and final certification. Renegy anticipates the facility to commercial operations prior to June 30, 2008.
Renegy, headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, is a renewable energy company focused on acquiring, developing and operating a growing portfolio of biomass power generation facilities. As stated by its CEO, "Our focus in 2008 is on building our core business and positioning ourselves to capitalize on the growing market opportunities for renewable energy."
