LCG, March 31, 2025--Dow and X-Energy Reactor Company, LLC ("X-energy") today announced the submission of a construction permit application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ("NRC") for a proposed advanced nuclear project in Seadrift, Texas. The proposed advanced small modular reactor ("SMR") project could begin construction later this decade and commence operations early next decade.

LCG, March 27, 2025--Avangrid, Inc., a member of the Iberdrola Group, today announced that its True North Solar project, located in Falls County, Texas, has achieved commercial operation. The True North Solar project will deliver electricity into ERCOT and support Meta's operations, including Meta's upcoming data center in neighboring Temple, its second data center in Texas.

Florida PSC Gives Green Light to FPL's New Solar Facilities
LCG, July 17, 2008--The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) Tuesday approved three solar energy projects proposed by Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). The projects include the world's largest photovoltaic solar system and the first hybrid energy system that combines solar thermal technology with an existing natural gas combined-cycle generation unit.
The projects are a step toward implementing the renewable energy goals approved by Governor Crist earlier this year.
FPL has plans for two solar photovoltaic facilities that will have a combined electric generating capacity of 35 MW. Earlier this month, SunPower Corporation announced that it was selected by FPL to design and build the facilities that will incorporate SunPower photovoltaic panels.
In DeSoto County, Florida, a 25-MW solar photovoltaic facility will be built that includes the installation of the SunPower Tracker system that follows the sun to increase electric generation from the panels. A 10-MW project will be constructed at the Kennedy Space Center. Both projects will be owned, operated and maintained by FPL.
The DeSoto project is scheduled to commence operations by December 2009, and the Kennedy Space Center is scheduled to commence operations by the first quarter of 2010. SunEdison will develop, finance, build, operate, monitor and maintain the solar farms.
The hybrid project will be at FPL's existing Martin Plant site. The Martin Next Generation Solar Energy Center will incorporate a design that will, when solar power is available, use energy from the sun to generate steam as a substitute for burning natural gas in a combined-cycle steam turbine system. The design will provide for as much as 75 MW of solar power and is expected to be the first such hybrid system in the world. The hybrid system is planned to commence operations by the end of 2009.
