SCE Announces Plans for 909-MW Wind Farm in Oregon

LCG, August 20, 2008--Southern California Edison (SCE) Monday announced it has executed a 20-year contract with DCE, an affiliate of Caithness Energy, for the electric generation from a wind project named Shepherd?s Flat. The installation of the wind turbines is scheduled to occur in the years 2011 and 2012.

The Shepherd?s Flat project site is located in Gilliam and Morrow Counties in north-central Oregon and has a footprint of 30 square miles. As envisioned, the mammoth project will include 303 wind turbines with a combined electric generating capacity of 909 MW.

According to SCE, the project will not require transmission system additions or upgrades.

There is a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) in California that requires utilities to increase their electric supply procurement of eligible renewable generating resources by one percent of load per year, with a 20 percent renewables target by the end of 2010 and a 33 percent target by the end of 2020.
