DOE Announces Site Selection for Energy Infrastructure and AI Data Centers on Federal Lands

LCG, July 24, 2025--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the next steps in the Trump administration’s plan to accelerate the development of AI infrastructure by using Federal lands to lower energy costs and help power the global AI race, as previously outlined in President Trump’s Executive Orders on Accelerating Federal Permitting of Data Center Infrastructure, Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security, and Unleashing American Energy.

Enbridge Announces 600-MW Solar Project in Texas to Power Meta Data Center Operations

LCG, July 22, 2025--Enbridge Inc. (Enbridge) today announced that it has reached a final investment decision on the Clear Fork solar project located near San Antonio, Texas. Meta Platforms, Inc. (Meta), has signed a long-term contract for all of the renewable power generated from the 600-MW project.

Local Opposition to Cape Wind Project Persists

LCG, June 19, 2009--Cape Wind Associates must respond to continued local opposition to its wind farm planned for installation in Nantucket Sound, about five miles off the shore of Massachusetts. The project developer, Cape Wind, has pursued government approval since 2001.

The Cape Cod Commission (CCC), a local land-use planning and regulatory agency, together with the city of Barnstable and the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, appealed the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board?s approval of the Cape Wind offshore energy project. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court will hear the appeal.

On May 28, the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board completed a Certificate of Environmental Impact and Public Interest granting all of the state and local permits necessary for the Cape Wind Associates wind energy project to proceed to construction. The Siting Board voted 7-0 to grant the Certificate, with minor modifications.

The Cape Wind Energy Project has a design generating capacity of 468 MW and includes 130 wind turbines that would - at the highest blade tip - extend 440 feet above the surface of the water. Concerns of opponents to the project include the visibility of the wind farm and related impacts on tourism.
