LCG, July 14, 2009--The Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) last Thursday announced that it approved a 20-year, power purchase agreement (PPA) with Flat Water Wind Farm LLC, a subsidiary of juwi Group/JW Prairie Wind Power. OPPD will purchase all of the electricity generated and related renewable energy certificates (RECs) from a 60-MW wind farm to be constructed in Richardson County, Nebraska.

The wind farm is expected to include forty, 1.5-MW wind turbines provided by GE. Commercial operation of the project is scheduled to commence by the end of 2010.

In January, OPPD announced an initiative to increase renewable power production, setting a goal to provide 10 percent of its electricity through renewable resources by 2020. The 60-MW wind project will move OPPD toward achieving its new goal.
