Florida PSC Approves Tampa Electric's Solar PV Project
LCG, December 16, 2009--Tampa Electric yesterday announced that the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) approved its 25-year, power purchase agreement (PPA) with Energy 5.0 for the Florida Solar I project. The power generated from the proposed 25-MW, solar photovoltaic (PV) facility is scheduled to commence delivering power to the grid in 2011.
The project will be constructed by Energy 5.0 at a 350-acre site in Polk County and incorporate roughly 100,000 silicon-based, PV panels that transform the sun's energy into power.
In March 2009, Tampa Electric requested approval of the PPA from the FPSC. Project benefits identified include: supporting clean, renewable energy produced in Florida; reduced risks given the PPA's energy-only, fixed pricing, and new investment and job creation in Florida.
