Sempra Completes Initial Block of Solar PV Capacity at Copper Mountain

LCG, June 17, 2010--Sempra Generation, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, announced Monday that installation of the initial 8-MW block of solar panels at its Copper Mountain Solar project is complete and now delivering power to the grid. The project is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The total electric generating capacity of the solar photovoltaic (PV) project will be 48 MW when fully operational in late 2010. Construction began in January.

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) contracted to purchase the power from Copper Mountain Solar and Sempra Generation's adjacent 10-MW El Dorado Solar plant under separate, 20-year contracts.

Both of the projects use thin-film, solar PV panels supplied by First Solar, who also has served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The El Dorado solar project began construction in July 2008 and was completed in December 2008. Copper Mountain Solar was announced in April 2009.
