LCG, June 4, 2025--Energy Vault Holdings Inc. (Energy Vault) and Jupiter Power (Jupiter) today announced the signing of an agreement for the supply of an additional battery energy storage system (BESS) at a Jupiter site in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region. The initial BESS project, located near Fort Stockton, Texas, was completed in July 2024, with a storage capacity 100 MW/200 MWh. The new BESS project will add another 100 MW/200 MWh of capacity. Construction has commenced, and the project is expected to achieve commercial operations by the end of this summer.

LCG, May 30, 2025--NuScale Power Corporation (NuScale), a leading provider of advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology, yesterday announced that it has received design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its uprated 77 MW power modules. NuScale states that it remains the only SMR technology company with design approval from the NRC, and the company remains on track for deployment by 2030, with 50- and 77-MW SMR options.

Georgia PSC Approves Spending on New Nuclear Units at Vogtle
LCG, August 17, 2011--Southern Company announced yesterday that the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) voted 5-0 to approve the spending on Vogtle Units 3 and 4 by its subsidiary, Georgia Power, for the period including July 1, 2010, through December 31, 2010. The Georgia PSC monitors construction of Vogtle Units 3 and 4 via monthly filings and semi-annual construction monitoring reports.
The $14 billion project, located near Waynesboro, Georgia, includes the construction of two 1,100-MW, AP1000 units for Georgia Power, plus co-owners Oglethorpe Power Corporation (OPC), the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG), and Dalton Utilities.
Southern Nuclear, another Southern Company subsidiary that operates Plant Vogtle's two existing nuclear units, is overseeing construction. Southern Nuclear is working under a Limited Work Authorization permit (since 2009) that allows for certain safety-related construction activities. Southern Nuclear will also operate the two new units.
The Vogtle project received additional good news earlier this month. First, Southern Nuclear received a schedule for the completion of the licensing process for Units 3 and 4 from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Second, the NRC completed its Final Safety Evaluation Report (FSER) for Units 3 and 4. Since clearing these two hurdles, Southern Company now anticipates the issuance of a Combined Construction and Operating License (COL) in early 2012. Once the COL is issued, full construction can begin, with commercial operations of the two new nuclear units expected to commence in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
