PUC of Texas Approves Entergy Texas' Plans to Build Over 1,200 MW of Gas-Fired Capacity

LCG, September 12, 2025--Entergy announced yesterday that the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) approved Entergy Texas’ proposal to build two efficient natural gas-fired power plants to support the region’s rapid growth. The combined electric generating capacity of the two facilities, the Legend Power Station and the Lone Star Power Station, will add over 1,200 MW to the Southeast Texas power grid to support new customer demand, increase reliability and lower costs for all customers. Both facilities are scheduled to commence operations by mid-2028.

New Power Generation Record Set for ERCOT

LCG, October 19, 2011--The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) announced that the electricity generated by wind farms on the afternoon of October 7 set a record at 7,400 MW. With an installed wind generating capacity totaling approximately 9,400 MW, this represents nearly an 80 percent capacity factor for the wind farms in ERCOT. Coastal wind farms accounted for approximately 15 percent of the power generated.

On October 7, approximately 15 percent of the electricity demand of 48,733 MW was supplied by electricity generated by the wind projects in ERCOT.

Although electric transmission constraints and the economy have slowed wind project development, new wind projects continue to be constructed. ERCOT anticipates the installed wind power capacity to increase from 9,400 MW to 9,700 MW by year end. Furthermore, over 2,300 miles of high-voltage transmission system expansions are planned by the end of 2013 that could allow for an additional 18,500 MW of installed wind power.
