DOE Authorizes Exports for South Texas LNG Project

LCG, February 5, 2013--The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) granted Pangea LNG (North America) Holdings, LLC, a long-term, multi-contract authorization to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to free trade agreement (FTA) nations from its new South Texas LNG Project under development on Corpus Christi Bay. Pangea expects the project to be in operation by at least 2018.

"Approval by the US DOE is a positive step forward for this project, which represents a significant investment in the development of the LNG market in the U.S.," said a Pangea LNG project spokesperson. "Exporting LNG will help stabilize U.S. natural gas prices, grow and sustain drilling and production jobs, and stimulate additional investment in developing the country's gas reserves."

Pangea is authorized to export up to 8 million metric tons of LNG annually (or 1.09 Bcf/day of natural gas) produced and received from domestic gas fields for a 25-year term commencing on the date of its first export.

The authorized FTA countries include: Republic of Korea, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Oman, Panama, Peru and Singapore. In December, Pangea LNG filed an application with the DOE requesting authorization to export LNG to any country with which the U.S. does not have a free trade agreement in effect. That application is now pending.

The proposed South Texas LNG Project will be developed on a 550-acre site located on the La Quinta Ship Channel of the Port of Corpus Christi. To receive gas supplies, the project will include a pipeline that connects to likely nine major interstate and intrastate transmission pipelines, thereby providing access to a myriad of gas supplies, including supplies from the Eagle Ford Shale and conventional production in South Texas.

The South Texas LNG Project is subject to federal, state and local regulatory approvals. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is acting as the lead federal agency. Pangea expects to file a FERC application in 2013, and commercial operation could commence by 2017.
