LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Duke to Suspend Application to NRC for New Nuclear Reactors in North Carolina
LCG, May 3, 2013--Duke Energy yesterday notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that it plans to suspend its combined construction and operating license (COL) application to build two nuclear units at its Harris site in Wake County, North Carolina.
Duke Energy executive vice president and president of Duke Energy Nuclear stated, "Duke uses an integrated resource planning approach to ensure that it reliably and economically forecasts and plans resources to meet the electricity needs of its customers well into the future. Our most recent forecast indicates two additional nuclear units at Harris will not be needed in the next 15 years."
In February 2008, Progress Energy Carolinas (which has since merged with Duke) submitted its COL application to add two Westinghouse Advanced Passive 1000 (AP1000) Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) at the site, where one 900-MW reactor has been operating since 1987. In 2008, Progress stated that the application would provide the option to construct the nuclear reactors to provide baseload, power generation without emitting greenhouse gases.
Duke Energy plans to continue to pursue its applications with the NRC to construct two AP1000 reactors at the Lee site in Gaffney, South Carolina and to construct two AP1000 reactors at the Levy site in Levy County, Florida.
