Oglethorpe Power Announces Selection of Kiewit Subsidiary as EPC Partner for New 1,425-MW Combined-cycle Facility in Georgia

LCG, January 13, 2026--Oglethorpe Power today announced it has selected Kiewit Corporation through its subsidiary, The Industrial Company (TIC), as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner for its new combined-cycle (CC), natural gas-fired power plant in Monroe County, Georgia. The new, 1,425-MW facility represents a capital investment of more than $3 billion. Commercial operation of the new generation capacity is planned to commence in 2029.

Meta Announces Up to 6.6 GW of Nuclear Projects to Power American AI

LCG, January 9, 2026--Meta today announced new, landmark agreements that will (i) extend and expand the operation of three existing nuclear power plants and (ii) drive the development of advanced nuclear technology. Meta's new agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo follow Meta's request for proposals (RFP) issued last month. Meta expects these projects to deliver up to 6.6 GW of new and existing clean nuclear energy by 2035.

Samsung to Test 7-MW Offshore Wind Turbine at U.K. Test Center

LCG, June 20, 2013--Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will test the drivetrain for its 7 MW offshore wind turbine at at the United Kingdom's new National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec), which includes test facilities specifically designed for the next generation of offshore wind turbines.

The U.K.'s Business and Energy Minister stated, "Britain has a real chance to lead the world in the offshore wind sector and is being supported by Government. Samsung Heavy Industries' decision to undertake the testing of its new multi-megawatt offshore wind turbine at Narec?s pioneering test facility proves the benefits the facility can offer industry and demonstrates the opportunity for growth and jobs in the offshore sector."

SHI's nacelle will be used to commission the Narec test center. The SHI equipment will be performance tested under simulated offshore wind conditions over a six-month test period.

The Narec testing facility is funded in part by Government and industry through the Energy Technologies Institute. The test rig can conduct performance, endurance and compressed life testing of complete nacelles up to 15 MW rating. It will verify new designs under simulated lifetime operating conditions and extreme events, such as storm conditions and electrical failures.
