SPP's Western Expansion Set for Implementation on April 1

LCG, March 13, 2026--The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) announced yesterday that leaders from the participating organizations voted unanimously to proceed as planned with expanding its regional transmission organization (RTO) services into the Western Interconnection. SPP sees the decision to proceed as planned as a strong signal of confidence as SPP and its partner utilities prepare for this key milestone, which will occur overnight between March 31 and April 1.

Entergy Estimates Customer Savings of $5B from "Fair Share Plus" Data Center Agreements

LCG, March 6, 2026--Entergy yesterday announced approximately $5 billion in total savings for 2.3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi resulting from data center customer agreements in those states. Entergy, which completed its first data center customer agreement in 2024, projects the customer savings over the next 20 years and after the regulatory approval or acknowledgement of the public service commissions in those states.

FGE Power Reaches Agreement to Finance and Construct 1,500-MW Natural Gas Project in Texas

LCG, July 23, 2014-FGE Power, LLC yesterday announced an agreement to partner with an affiliate of Starwood Energy Group Global LLC to finance and build two, 747-MW combined-cycle gas turbine facilities in Mitchell County, Texas. Phase I of the project, FGE Texas I, is planned to commence construction this fall and achieve commercial operations no later than early 2017. Phase II, FGE Texas II, will add an identical 747-MW power block, with construction to start in early 2015 and reach commercial operations by the summer of 2017. The FGE Texas Project (FGE Texas I and FGE Texas II) represents over $1.2 billion of direct investment.

"We are excited and honored to announce our partnership with Starwood Energy, a globally-recognized and market-leading energy infrastructure investor who shares our goal of creating clean and renewable power generation resources," said the CEO and President of FGE Power.

The FGE Texas Project, located in West Texas between Midland and Abilene, will use Alstom Thermal Power's next generation KA24-2 power platform. The project will also employ a hybrid cooling systems that are expected to diminish water consumption by 70 percent. Water sources will be limited to that obtained solely from brackish wells and community effluent wastewater. The project will interconnect at Morgan Creek Substation, with access to both the North and West ERCOT zones.

In late April of this year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the final greenhouse gas (GHG) Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) construction permit to FGE Power for the FGE Texas project.
