LCG, June 4, 2025--Energy Vault Holdings Inc. (Energy Vault) and Jupiter Power (Jupiter) today announced the signing of an agreement for the supply of an additional battery energy storage system (BESS) at a Jupiter site in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region. The initial BESS project, located near Fort Stockton, Texas, was completed in July 2024, with a storage capacity 100 MW/200 MWh. The new BESS project will add another 100 MW/200 MWh of capacity. Construction has commenced, and the project is expected to achieve commercial operations by the end of this summer.

LCG, May 30, 2025--NuScale Power Corporation (NuScale), a leading provider of advanced small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear technology, yesterday announced that it has received design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its uprated 77 MW power modules. NuScale states that it remains the only SMR technology company with design approval from the NRC, and the company remains on track for deployment by 2030, with 50- and 77-MW SMR options.

Southern Announces Solar Project to Supply Georgia EMCs
LCG, December 18, 2014-Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power announced yesterday its plan to develop a 131-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Georgia. The electricity and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) will be sold under 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) to three Georgia electric membership corporations: Cobb Electric Membership Corporation (Cobb EMC), Flint Electric Membership Corporation (doing business as Flint Energies) and Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC). Cobb EMC has contracted for approximately 101 MW of capacity, and Flint Energies and Sawnee EMC have each contracted for approximately 15 MW.
Southern Company's Chairman, President and CEO stated, "Southern Company is committed to developing renewables as a component of the full portfolio of energy resources. Our strategic solar expansion helps build our system's diverse fuel mix and solar generation capacity to prepare for America's energy future."
The project will be constructed on a 911-acre site southwest of Macon in Taylor County, Georgia. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project is First Solar. The project will consist of approximately 1.6 million thin-film PV solar modules mounted on single-axis tracking tables manufactured by First Solar. Project construction is scheduled to commence in September 2015, and commercial operation is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2016.
According to Southern's press release, the facility fits Southern Power's business strategy of growing its wholesale business in targeted markets through acquiring generating assets and building new units, the output of which is significantly covered by long-term contracts.
Last May, Southern Company subsidiary Georgia Power announced plans to install three, 30-MW solar energy facilities on U.S. Army bases in Georgia. Like Southern Power's project, the U.S. Army projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016. However, Georgia Power will build, own and operate the three facilities. In May, Georgia Power forecast it will have a solar portfolio approaching 900 MW by 2016.
