PUC of Texas Approves Entergy Texas' Plans to Build Over 1,200 MW of Gas-Fired Capacity

LCG, September 12, 2025--Entergy announced yesterday that the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) approved Entergy Texas’ proposal to build two efficient natural gas-fired power plants to support the region’s rapid growth. The combined electric generating capacity of the two facilities, the Legend Power Station and the Lone Star Power Station, will add over 1,200 MW to the Southeast Texas power grid to support new customer demand, increase reliability and lower costs for all customers. DONG Energy Announces Key Suppliers for Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm

LCG, March 18, 2015-DONG Energy announced late last week its key suppliers for the second phase of the Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm off the northwest coast of England in the United Kingdom. DONG Energy selected Siemens AG to supply its 7.0-MW direct drive wind turbine, with the second phase of the wind farm adding approximately 330 MW of additional electric generating capacity.

For the transmission system, DONG Energy selected ABB to supply a high-voltage cable system to deliver power from the Walney Extension to the United Kingdom. The Walney Extension will provide additional generation potential of 660 MW on top of the existing offshore wind farm capacity of 367 MW.

The Senior vice president for DONG Energy Wind Power stated, "The 7-MW turbine is an upgrade of the 6-MW platform, that we are very familiar with and are already installing at both Westermost Rough in the UK and at our Gode Wind 1+2 wind farms in Germany. We are certain that this improved and bigger turbine will contribute to driving down cost of offshore wind power even further."

The existing Walney offshore wind farm is located approximately nine miles west of Walney Island off the coast of Cumbria in the Irish Sea. The Walney Extension Wind Farm site where ABB is supplying the high-voltage cable system is northwest of the existing installation and will cover an area roughly twice as large. ABB will design, manufacture, supply and commission the 220 kV alternating current (AC) cable system. The link includes approximately 100 miles of undersea cable to connect the two wind farm platforms to each other and to shore, plus about 15 miles of underground cable for the onshore grid connection.

Earlier this year, DONG Energy selected MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, with their 8.0-MW turbine, as its preferred supplier for the first phase of the Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm.
