Iberdrola Renewables Executes Contract with SCE for 132-MW Wind Project in Southern California

LCG, July 30, 2015-Iberdrola Renewables yesterday announced a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply Southern California Edison (SCE) with renewable power from the planned Tule Wind Power Project in San Diego County, California. SCE will purchase all of the power generated by the 132-MW wind farm. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2017.

The Tule Wind Power Project will have a footprint approaching 14,000 acres, including Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land north of the town of Boulevard. The project will include up to 67 wind turbines. A future expansion, utilizing 27 additional wind turbines, is also possible.

Iberdrola Renewables vice president stated, "We are pleased to support SCE's renewable energy goals with affordable wind energy from our new project. This project has been fully permitted for quite some time, so we're very pleased our proven track record of experience developing, constructing, and managing wind projects in California pushed this across the goal line. We look forward to reliably providing clean power to SCE for its customers and expanding our long term relationship with them."

The Tule Wind Power Project will support SCE's efforts to meet the California Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) of 33 percent renewable energy by 2020 for Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs).

The San Diego Chamber of Commerce president & CEO stated, "San Diego has been a sustainable leader in California and helped set the national standard for energy efficiency & use of renewable power. Wind energy offers another way we can work to meet our renewable energy goals, however, there's only so much land available for wind development in San Diego. This project is in the right location and ready for construction at the right moment to continue San Diego's clean power leadership."

The U.S. Department of the Interior issued its final approval of the Tule Wind Power Project in December 2011, when the Secretary of Interior signed the Record of Decision on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
