Consortium Enters Agreement to Construct Lordstown Energy Center in Ohio
LCG, April 7, 2016--Siemens Financial Services (SFS) and Macquarie Infrastructure Partners III (MIP III) announced yesterday that they have entered an agreement to construct the Lordstown Energy Center (LEC), a 940-MW, natural gas-fired electric generating facility. The LEC site is situated approximately 50 miles southeast of Cleveland, Ohio. The project developer, Clean Energy Future, will retain an interest in the project.
Power generated by the facility will be delivered into the PJM market. The project location provides access to low cost natural gas supplies from the Utica and Marcellus shale gas basins.
Construction is planned to begin shortly on the 2x1 combined-cycle project, and it is scheduled to start commercial operations in the summer of 2018.
Siemens will be the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contractor and provide the power block, including Siemens H-class gas turbine technology. There are 19 turbines in the SGT-8000H series in commercial operation, and Siemens recently announced that its fleet of H-class gas turbines achieved over 200,000 operating hours in January 2016.
The turnkey solution at the LEC will incorporate two SGT6-8000H gas turbines (296 MW each), one SST-5000 steam turbine, two SGen-1200A generators as part of the gas turbine packages, one SGen-2000H generator as part of the steam turbine package, and a Siemens SPPA-T3000 integrated plant control system. The gas and steam turbines will be manufactured by Siemens at its facilities in North Carolina.
The plant design includes Siemens Flex-Plant combined cycle features designed to accelerate gas turbine start-ups and reduce start up emissions up to 95%, and Siemens Clean-Ramp technology designed to maintain low emissions while load following.
