MHI Vestas Presents Its Commercially-Available 10 MW Offshore Wind Turbine
LCG, September, 27 2018--MHI Vestas announced Tuesday its first, commercially-available wind turbine that has achieved 10 MW. The company, which is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Vestas Wind Systems, presented the V164-10.0 MW wind turbine at the Global Wind Summit in Hamburg, Germany.
The CEO of MHI Vestas stated, "What was unreachable before has become the new benchmark. In launching the V164-10.0 MW today, MHI Vestas is proud to contribute this major milestone to the offshore wind industry. And it gives us the opportunity to pay tribute to all the wind industry pioneers who have led us to this historic, double-digit nominal capacity."
MHI Vestas currently offers the commercially available V164-9.5 MW turbine, which passed its final certification in June. Orders have been received and are expected to be installed by the end of next year.
The V164-10.0 MW turbine is an expansion of the V164-9.5 MW turbines. The 10-MW turbine design includes a rotor diameter of 164 meters and turbine blades 80 meters in length. The height from base to tip will come in at approximately 187 meters.
In January 2017, MHI Vestas announced that it had uprated the V164-8.0 MW wind turbine and that it could reach 9 MW at specific site conditions. The 9 MW wind turbine was based on the V164-8.0 MW.
